This recipe is a perfect example of how two beloved dishes can be merged into one delectable creation. The juicy beef patty, smothered in melted mozzarella and provolone cheese, and topped with caramelized onions and green peppers, all served on a toasted bun, brings a touch of Philadelphia’s famous cheese steak into your home. It’s ideal for those looking to impress at their next barbecue or family dinner, offering a unique twist on the traditional burger.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Directions:

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook until softened and slightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix the ground beef with garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 patties.
  3. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil and cook the patties on medium heat for about 5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
  4. A minute before the patties are done, top each with a mix of mozzarella and provolone cheese. Cover the skillet to help the cheese melt.
  5. Toast the hamburger buns lightly, if desired. Place the cooked patties on the buns, top with the cooked onions and peppers.
  6. Serve immediately.
