Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar and Monterey Jack)
  • 1 cup salsa
  • Toppings: Chopped tomatoes, sliced green onions, black olives, jalapeños
  • Tortilla chips (for serving)

Directions:

  1. Preheat your smoker to 250°F, using hickory or mesquite wood chips.
  2. Cook the ground beef or turkey in a skillet over medium heat until fully browned. Drain any excess fat, then stir in the taco seasoning. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, and 1 cup of shredded cheese. Mix until smooth.
  4. Spread the cheese mixture in the bottom of a cast-iron skillet or aluminum pan. Layer the seasoned meat over the cheese mixture, top with salsa, and then the remaining shredded cheese.
  5. Smoke the dip for 30-45 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly, with a rich smoky aroma.
  6. Once done, remove the dip from the smoker, allow it to cool slightly, then add the toppings.
  7. Serve hot with tortilla chips.
