Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- ½ cup milk
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 egg whites
- 9 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- ¾ cup white sugar
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 ½ cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 tbsp milk
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch pan.
- In a medium bowl, mix flour, 2 tbsp sugar, and ½ tsp salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine egg yolks and ½ cup milk; stir into flour mixture.
- Roll half of the dough on a floured surface to fit the pan size. Place dough in the pan, spreading a light coating of egg white over it.
- Fill with sliced apples, sprinkle with ¾ cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll out remaining dough and place over apples. Brush with egg white.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until crust is golden.
- Mix confectioners’ sugar, pinch of salt, vanilla, and 3 tbsp milk until smooth. Drizzle over cooled bars. Cut into squares.
