Ingredients:
- 9 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 2 cups diced cooked ham
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley (for garnish)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until golden and smooth.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cream. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens—about 5–7 minutes.
- Stir in Gruyère, Parmesan, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat once smooth and creamy. This is your Mornay sauce.
- Spread a small amount of sauce in the bottom of the baking dish. Layer 3 lasagna noodles over it.
- Top with half the ham, half the ricotta, a layer of mozzarella, and a drizzle of Mornay sauce. Repeat layers.
- Finish with the last 3 noodles, more Mornay sauce, and remaining mozzarella.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley and serve.
