Ingredients:

  • 9 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 cups diced cooked ham
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley (for garnish)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until golden and smooth.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk and cream. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens—about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Stir in Gruyère, Parmesan, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat once smooth and creamy. This is your Mornay sauce.
  5. Spread a small amount of sauce in the bottom of the baking dish. Layer 3 lasagna noodles over it.
  6. Top with half the ham, half the ricotta, a layer of mozzarella, and a drizzle of Mornay sauce. Repeat layers.
  7. Finish with the last 3 noodles, more Mornay sauce, and remaining mozzarella.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  9. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley and serve.
