These Meatball Boats are the perfect combination of savory meatballs, tangy marinara sauce, and gooey melted mozzarella, all nestled in a soft sub roll. It’s an easy yet satisfying meal that will satisfy your craving for comfort food.
- Ingredients:
- 4 large sub rolls or hoagie buns
- 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the sub rolls or hoagie buns lengthwise, and hollow out the centers to create “boats.” Place the rolls on a baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully combined.
- Shape the mixture into 12-16 meatballs, depending on your preferred size, and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake the meatballs for 20 minutes, or until cooked through and browned on the outside.
- While the meatballs bake, heat the marinara sauce in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Once the meatballs are cooked, add them to the marinara sauce and stir to coat.
- Spoon 3-4 meatballs into each bread boat, along with some extra marinara sauce. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
