Oklahoma Fried Onion Burgers are a perfect combination of crispy and juicy. The addition of fried onions to the burger is the signature touch that sets these burgers apart. The crispy onions provide a wonderful crunch and a savory bite that complements the beef patty beautifully. With optional toppings like cheese, pickles, and lettuce, you can customize your burger just the way you like it.
- Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 4 burger buns
- 2 tablespoons butter (for toasting buns)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: cheese slices, pickles, lettuce, ketchup, mustard
Directions:
- In a large skillet, heat about 1 tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and crispy, about 8-10 minutes. Once cooked, remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, combine the ground beef and Worcestershire sauce. Season with a little salt and pepper.
- Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and form into burger patties.
- Lightly coat each patty with the flour mixture, pressing gently to make sure they are coated evenly.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- While the burgers are cooking, butter the burger buns and toast them in a separate pan until golden brown.
- Once the burgers are cooked, assemble the burgers by placing each patty on a toasted bun. Top with a generous portion of crispy fried onions and any additional toppings you like (cheese, pickles, lettuce, ketchup, or mustard).
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
