Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 oz mozzarella cheese, sliced or shredded
  • 12–16 slices pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 4 burger buns
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter (for toasting buns)
  • Optional: fresh basil, red pepper flakes

Directions:

  1. Preheat grill or skillet to medium-high heat.
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Divide into 4 equal portions and form into burger patties. Create a small indent in the center of each.
  4. Grill patties for 4–5 minutes per side or until fully cooked.
  5. During the last minute of cooking, top each patty with mozzarella and 3–4 slices of pepperoni. Cover to melt cheese and crisp the pepperoni slightly.
  6. In a small saucepan, warm the pizza sauce over low heat.
  7. Lightly butter or oil the buns and toast them until golden.
  8. Assemble burgers: place patty on bun bottom, spoon over pizza sauce, and top with basil or red pepper flakes if desired. Cover with bun top and serve hot.
