Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar and Monterey Jack)
- 1 cup salsa
- Toppings: Chopped tomatoes, sliced green onions, black olives, jalapeños
- Tortilla chips (for serving)
Directions:
- Preheat your smoker to 250°F, using hickory or mesquite wood chips.
- Cook the ground beef or turkey in a skillet over medium heat until fully browned. Drain any excess fat, then stir in the taco seasoning. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, and 1 cup of shredded cheese. Mix until smooth.
- Spread the cheese mixture in the bottom of a cast-iron skillet or aluminum pan. Layer the seasoned meat over the cheese mixture, top with salsa, and then the remaining shredded cheese.
- Smoke the dip for 30-45 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly, with a rich smoky aroma.
- Once done, remove the dip from the smoker, allow it to cool slightly, then add the toppings.
- Serve hot with tortilla chips.
