Ingredients:
- 8 slices of thick Texas toast
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onions over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onions are soft, about 5-7 minutes. Drain the excess fat.
- Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper to the beef mixture. Stir and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- While the beef is simmering, butter both sides of the Texas toast slices and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake the Texas toast in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Once the beef mixture is ready, spoon it generously over each slice of Texas toast.
- Top each with shredded cheddar cheese and place them back in the oven for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
- Serve immediately, garnished with extra cheese if desired.
