Tres Leches Cake is a light, moist cake soaked in a mixture of three types of milk, creating a rich, velvety texture that’s irresistible. The cake is topped with a generous layer of fluffy whipped cream that perfectly complements its creamy base. This dessert is a true crowd-pleaser, offering the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess.
Ingredients:
- 1 box of vanilla cake mix (or homemade cake)
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the milk soak:
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
For the whipped topping:
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions, using whole milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Pour the batter into the prepared dish and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the milk soak by combining evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream in a bowl. Set aside.
- Once the cake is done, allow it to cool for about 10 minutes. Poke holes all over the top of the cake with a fork or skewer.
- Slowly pour the milk soak over the cake, allowing it to absorb the milk mixture. Let the cake absorb the milk for about 20-30 minutes at room temperature.
- While the cake is soaking, make the whipped topping by beating the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together in a chilled bowl until soft peaks form.
- Once the cake has soaked up the milk, top it with the whipped cream and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving. Garnish with fresh fruit, if desired.
