Tres Leches Cake is a light, moist cake soaked in a mixture of three types of milk, creating a rich, velvety texture that’s irresistible. The cake is topped with a generous layer of fluffy whipped cream that perfectly complements its creamy base. This dessert is a true crowd-pleaser, offering the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of vanilla cake mix (or homemade cake)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the milk soak:

  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

For the whipped topping:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions, using whole milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Pour the batter into the prepared dish and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. While the cake is baking, prepare the milk soak by combining evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream in a bowl. Set aside.
  4. Once the cake is done, allow it to cool for about 10 minutes. Poke holes all over the top of the cake with a fork or skewer.
  5. Slowly pour the milk soak over the cake, allowing it to absorb the milk mixture. Let the cake absorb the milk for about 20-30 minutes at room temperature.
  6. While the cake is soaking, make the whipped topping by beating the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together in a chilled bowl until soft peaks form.
  7. Once the cake has soaked up the milk, top it with the whipped cream and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving. Garnish with fresh fruit, if desired.
