This Chocolate Peanut Butter Earthquake Cake is a dessert that looks as amazing as it tastes. The cake bakes with creamy peanut butter pockets that sink into the rich chocolate base, creating a stunning “earthquake” effect. The melted chocolate drizzle on top adds extra indulgence, while the crushed peanuts bring a delightful crunch to every bite.
Ingredients:
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients called for on the box)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup crushed peanuts (for topping)
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions and pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and peanut butter together until smooth and creamy.
- Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the cake batter, but do not stir.
- Bake the cake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean (a few crumbs are okay). The peanut butter mixture will sink into the cake, creating the “earthquake” effect.
- While the cake is baking, melt the chocolate chips with the milk in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
- Once the cake is finished baking and slightly cooled, drizzle the melted chocolate mixture over the top.
- Sprinkle crushed peanuts on top for added texture and flavor.
- Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.
