This Chocolate Peanut Butter Earthquake Cake is a dessert that looks as amazing as it tastes. The cake bakes with creamy peanut butter pockets that sink into the rich chocolate base, creating a stunning “earthquake” effect. The melted chocolate drizzle on top adds extra indulgence, while the crushed peanuts bring a delightful crunch to every bite.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients called for on the box)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup crushed peanuts (for topping)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions and pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and peanut butter together until smooth and creamy.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the cake batter, but do not stir.
  5. Bake the cake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean (a few crumbs are okay). The peanut butter mixture will sink into the cake, creating the “earthquake” effect.
  6. While the cake is baking, melt the chocolate chips with the milk in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
  7. Once the cake is finished baking and slightly cooled, drizzle the melted chocolate mixture over the top.
  8. Sprinkle crushed peanuts on top for added texture and flavor.
  9. Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.
